INTRODUCTION

GreenSpark is GROW-GREEN’s practical renewable energy training programme. It is a 2-day course designed to give young people in Ghana hands-on skills in solar panel (PV) maintenance and basic energy auditing.

The training is delivered in partnership with a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution. GreenSpark helps close the gap between Ghana’s growing clean energy sector and the need for skilled young workers.

Ghana aims to generate 10% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030, and this goal requires more trained professionals in the green energy field.
GreenSpark Cohort 1 begins in July 2026 with only 30 available slots. Early application is strongly encouraged, as demand is expected to be high. ⚡🌱

WHO CAN ATTEND

This programme is open to:

  • Young people aged 16–30 who have completed Senior High School or hold a TVET qualification
  • Individuals from all backgrounds

No prior experience in electricity or engineering is required. Participants only need the motivation to learn and complete the full 2-day programme.

We aim for at least 40% female participation, with special outreach to young women studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and those in TVET institutions.

TARGET AUDIENCE

GreenSpark is designed for:

  • School leavers
  • University students
  • TVET students in Greater Accra

It is especially suited for young people who want practical, certified skills and a clear path into Ghana’s renewable energy and green jobs sector.

Priority will be given to applicants from low-income households and communities with limited access to green economy opportunities.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Participants in the programme will receive:

  • Two days of structured training covering:
    • Ghana’s energy situation and the importance of renewable energy
    • How solar power systems work (components, installation basics, and sizing)
    • Basic energy auditing for homes and small businesses
    • Career guidance on entering the energy sector, including what employers look for and how to write a strong technical CV
  • A GROW-GREEN Certificate of Completion, co-signed by the partner TVET institution and recognized by employers
  • Ongoing support to access internship opportunities through the GreenPath career network 🚀
