SUMMARY:GreenHarvest Climate-Smart Farming Workshop
DESCRIPTION:INTRODUCTION\nGreenHarvest is a community agriculture programme by GROW-GREEN that helps smallholder farmers in Ghana respond to the growing challenges of climate change. Changes in weather patterns such as irregular rainfall\, long dry periods\, declining soil quality\, and rising temperatures are already affecting farming activities and reducing crop yields in many rural communities. Women and young farmers are often the most affected. \nThis workshop series teaches farmers practical and affordable Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) methods that can help increase crop yields\, conserve water\, and strengthen farms against future climate challenges. The training will be delivered by GROW-GREEN facilitators together with extension officers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA)\, focusing on communities that need support the most. \nAugust was carefully selected for the programme because it comes just before the planting season in southern Ghana. This allows farmers to immediately apply what they learn during the next farming cycle. 🌱 \n\nWHO CAN ATTEND\nThis programme is open to: \n\nSmallholder farmers aged 20 years and above\nRural youth aged 18–30 who are interested in sustainable farming\nCommunity leaders and cooperative group leaders\n\nWe aim to ensure that at least 50% of participants are women\, recognizing the important role women play in feeding families and supporting household food production. \nNo formal education is required. The sessions are practical\, interactive\, and designed for everyone to understand and participate fully. \n\nTARGET AUDIENCE\nGreenHarvest focuses on farming communities in the Eastern and Central Regions of Ghana\, where climate change is already affecting agricultural productivity. Common challenges include irregular rainfall\, declining soil quality\, and drought conditions that reduce the growth of staple crops. \nCommunities will be selected in partnership with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) district offices. This collaboration ensures the training supports and strengthens existing agricultural extension services in those areas. \n\nWHAT TO EXPECT\nParticipants in this programme can expect: \n\nA guided community workshop explaining how climate change is affecting farming seasons\, rainfall\, soil health\, post-harvest management\, and ways to reduce food waste\nThe selection of two agricultural champions from each community\, who will receive additional training and continue to lead learning and knowledge-sharing activities after the programme ends\nOpportunities for rural youth to connect with GROW-GREEN’s GreenSpark and GreenPath programmes\, creating pathways from community farming activities into careers in the growing green economy 🌱
